Ladies and Gentlemen, The Style Contest

The Style Contest for Movable Type, Typepad and LiveJournal

After months of planning, coding and late night meetings (well for me at least considering the 12 hour difference between me and my co-conspirators) The Style Contest is live.

What started as a small idea among members in the community has blossomed into an fabulous contest. Jesse breathed life into what was otherwise a dull Vickburg blog, Elise without whom we wouldn't have these prizes and I've been in a coding frenzy.

Designers, this is your contest. We've got a prize pool of over $17000 (many thanks to our Sponsors) and a phenomenally talented panel of judges.

And for those of you who, like me, yearn to be able to use Photoshop and create gorgeous websites, well you'll soon have an incredible repository of styles to pick and choose from. In the meanwhile, do help us get the word out.

Yayyyyy!!! I'm looking forward to seeing what creative designs come out of this contest. I'm looking to giving my blog a makeover; just click on my name. What I'm looking is a 3-column format, with judicious use of white space and a clear, uncluttered look. Readability and attractiveness are very important to me. Looking forward to seeing what you talented designers can come up with . . .

I'm really looking forward to this. However, I'm having trouble navigating through the actual site to figure out how to begin styling the templates. Do I download the templates and work locally? Am I just changing the stylesheet? Can the html pages be changed? I need more info on how to work with the html templates and it's just not on the site. Help?

Take a look at the contest rules - it should explain what you need to do wrt the templates. Also, Arvind posted some time ago an explanation of how the MovableType templates work - look through the archives - look in Templates under Categories to the left of this.

Using IE or Maxthon, I can't figure out how to browse the styles. The browser seems to be broken. I have a scrpt error and all I can see is the thumbnails. I can't figure out how to see a full size preview. I also can't browse right to left on the thumbnail bar, clicking the triangle to move right left does nothing. I haven't been able to try Firefox yet.

I looked for 'contact' info on the contest web site but couldn't find any for questions like this.

I hope someone does an entry based on Gettysburg. The new styles are mainly a skinny line running down the center of the page.

Hey Arvind :) Good luck for exams! I just tried to comment on this entry at the Style Contest site about 3 minutes ago, and got the message from TypeKey

The site you're trying to comment on has not signed up for this feature. Please inform the site owner.

..yet I am able to use TypeKey on Movalog, so presumably not a TypeKey error. I then tried to use the LiveJournal authentication but just ended up on a blank page (I tried LJ authentication both while logged on to LJ in another tabbed window, and not logged on to LJ - same result).
